Explore Tamworth - A gateway to adventure

Welcome to Tamworth, a place where ancient legends and lush landscapes live in perfect harmony.

Nestled in the southern most tip of Staffordshire, just a stone’s throw from the borders of Warwickshire, Leicestershire and Derbyshire and 20 minutes from Birmingham, Tamworth makes the perfect base for exploring the surrounding quaint villages, sweeping countryside, vibrant waterways, and tranquil nature reserves.

Discover towns and villages with charm and character

Venture just outside Tamworth town and you’ll discover a constellation of characterful towns and villages, each with a story to tell.

In Polesworth, wander the scenic Pooley Country Park, a former colliery now transformed into a haven for walkers, cyclists, and dreamers.

Nearby Pooley Hall was, for some years, the home of the now late Edwin Starr, the American soul and Motown singer.

Just down the towpath, Alvecote offers a peaceful stop steeped in history. Visit the ruins of Alvecote Priory, founded in the 12th century, now said to be haunted by the ghost of a grey lady, then pop into the Marina and enjoy a drink at the canal-side pub, a favourite among boaters and hikers alike.

Hopwas, nestled between the Coventry Canal and its ancient woodlands, is a dream for nature lovers. Its two historic pubs, sitting opposite each other by the canal, are the perfect place to end a woodland walk with a pint in hand.

Head south to Middleton, where the magnificent Middleton Hall & Gardens showcases centuries of architectural history, stunning gardens, and a lively courtyard filled with independent shops, galleries, and tearooms.

And don’t miss Wigginton, a charming village with a warm community spirit, scenic walking routes, and one of the area’s most beloved farm shops, offering fresh local produce and homemade treats straight from the heart of the Staffordshire countryside.
