Perton
Lakes and nature
Welcome to Perton, South Staffordshire’s under-the-radar delight, a place where history meets vibrant high street shopping, and wide-open green spaces invite peaceful adventures.
From pear orchards to world war airfields to modern village life, Perton blends eras beautifully.
The village is built on the former RAF Perton, and even now, remnants of the runway and air-raid shelters remain tucked in the surrounding woods.
Today, green spaces define Perton. The landscaped upper and lower lakes, along with neighbouring Bluebell Woods, are pushchair and wheelchair-friendly, perfect for a family stroll, wildlife observation, or imaginative adventures amid the wildflowers. Birdwatchers and nature lovers will delight in sightings of the resident Canada geese, mallards, herons, kingfishers, and even bats flitting across twilight skies.
For nature and education, Kingswood Outdoor Education Centre makes the most of woodlands and outdoor adventure to encourage children to explore the natural world. The centre is also home to residential trips, school groups, and university students.
Nearby, Baggeridge Country Park spreads over 150 acres of woodland, meadows, and wildlife trails, ideal for family picnics and gentle hikes. The South Staffordshire Railway Walk threads through lush landscape from Wombourne to Himley, passing close by.
Throughout the year, events like the lively Perton Carnival and the festive Christmas lights switch-on bring the village to life, uniting residents in celebration.
