10. Green spaces right in the heart of Leek at Brough Park and Brough Park Fields Nature Reserve
Brough Park has been delighting Leek town’s residents since the reign of Queen Victoria, when smartly dressed gentlemen and ladies in bright billowing dresses would have taken their daily perambulation around its network of paths. A world away from its main use today as the venue for the Brough Park Running Club’s weekly Park Run at 9am on Saturday mornings. These ‘couch to 5km’ runs are suitable for all abilities and ages.
Just a step away from Leek town centre, Brough Park is perfect for town residents wanting relaxing green spaces yet still want lots to do. Children love the parks’ many attractions, including a kiddies play area, bowling green and pavilion, tennis courts and a bandstand, lake, multi-use games area and a skatepark.
The park has many paths and is largely flat but there is a steep hill to the south of the bandstand. All paths are accessible and are lined with formal landscaping, showing seasonal flower displays and specimen trees. Entrances are wide enough for wheelchairs.
