The Countryside Code is your guide to visiting the countryside. It includes the rules you must follow when you’re enjoying parks and waterways, coast and countryside.
The Water Safety Code is designed to provide simple and easy to remember information that acts both as a proactive measure to help people to educate everyone across the UK and Ireland to make early, critical decisions and also to help people to understand what they should do in emergency action.
Here are some tips to remember whilst you're out and about in our beautiful area on how we can all look after people, businesses, the environment, our communities and make sure we're taking responsibility for our actions.
1. Respect our local communities.
- Always park responsibly and only in designated areas.
- Do not trespass on private land.
- Take your litter with you or put it in a bin.
- Be considerate to local residents and businesses.
2. Help us to protect our local wildlife and the breath taking scenery.
- Always be careful if you're heading out in to the countryside as much of the landscape is home to animals, from insects and butterflies to sheep and cows.
- Always keep dogs on leads and clean up after them.
- Put your rubbish in the bin or take it home with you.
- Discarded cigarettes and glass bottles can cause a fire - make sure you dispose of them properly.
- Leave the BBQ at home! We have a Public Space Protection Order in place banning BBQ's, wildfires, fireworks and Chinese lanterns throughout Staffordshire Moorlands. Any open fires are also not permitted in the Peak District National Park.
- Stick to the Public Right of Way.
- Wild camping (anywhere outside of designated camp sites) is only allowed with landowner permission!
3. Plan ahead.
- Plan ahead and make bookings for local attractions, restaurants and accommodation.
