What’s On in the Staffordshire Moorlands

What’s on in the Staffordshire Moorlands? Well, it’s probably easier to ask What’s Not!

The unique variety, attractions and accomplishments across the district inspire a jam-packed list of events, festivals and activities, which celebrate life in the district.

Showcasing the beautiful landscape, reflecting the seasons, capturing the arts and history - and providing a warm welcome to all, this is a place that gives life its all.

The events calendar is a powerhouse of activity - and the doors are open to everyone to see just what the Staffordshire Moorlands has to offer.

Be inspired at Alton Towers Resort, with nationally and internationally acclaimed special events that include the oomptastic Oktoberfest, spine-tingling Scarefest, sensationally spectacular Fireworks and the magic of a Christmas celebration.

Charming days are to be had at Churnet Valley Railway, with experiences from the comfort and grandeur of a carriage pulled along the breathtaking countryside by a steam train, including a visit to the North Pole at Christmas, murder mystery trips and dining opportunities including Sunday lunches, hearty breakfasts and cream teas.

Head to Peak Wildlife Park to enjoy seasonal and themed events throughout the year ideal for children and adult visitors alike.

Culture calls at the Nicholson Museum and Art Gallery in the heart of Leek, with a vibrant annual programme of temporary exhibitions, covering a broad range of themes.

The Staffordshire Moorlands is also home to markets that appeal to people from all walks of life, which have been held in the area for almost a thousand years.

Farming and countryside pursuits are another major part of the economy and lifestyle of the district, a fact reflected by the agricultural shows that can be found in the summer months. Shows in the Staffordshire Moorlands are varied and highly individual, each reflecting local life in the areas they are held, with a friendly-welcome assured.

Colourful and artistic well dressings are also dotted at locations across the Staffordshire Moorlands, where village wells are celebrated in an ancient ritual to give thanks for the fresh supply of water. Eye-catching displays, with a theme that changes each year, are placed around the wells, using flowers and natural objects.
