Theatres & Nightlife in Staffordshire

With a host of theatres, cinemas, live music venues and events in the calendar every year, there’s plenty to make a song and dance about in Staffordshire. 

Theatres including the New Vic, Lichfield Garrick, Stafford Gatehouse and Stoke-on-Trent’s Regent throw the spotlight on everything from touring West End shows, to community productions, and ballet, opera and top stand-up comedy. 

Every summer, the productions move into stunning outdoor locations at The Trentham Estate, Biddulph Grange Garden and Dorothy Clive Garden. 

There’s great live music throughout the year at the Victoria Hall, while The Trentham Estate, Uttoxeter Racecourse and Cannock Chase host well-known bands and tribute acts every summer, and some of the biggest names in folk music star at Leek Arts Festival. 

If you prefer your action on the silver screen, watch the latest Hollywood blockbusters at Cineworld at The Potteries Centre, Vue in Newcastle-under-Lyme, ODEON at Stoke-on-Trent and Stafford, or indie treats at Barton Marina’s Red Carpet Cinema. 

 

Theatres in Staffordshire

As the first purpose-built theatre-in-the-round in Europe, the intimate New Vic Theatre gives an unusual perspective and puts you so close to the action you can almost touch the performers. 

As well as live music, ballet, poetry and top comedians, the New Vic is famed for critically-acclaimed adaptations of classic stories – particularly at Christmas – and community productions. 

Lichfield Garrick Theatre celebrates the life of David Garrick, the ground-breaking 18th Century actor who grew up in the city, through performance with a host of stunning spaces for all kinds of productions. 

From comedy to dance, tribute nights to ballet, there’s something for everyone, with regular children’s theatre performances offering plenty of family fun. 

If you fancy a laugh with the country’s top stand-ups or taking in an award-winning youth production or National Theatre show, look no further than Stafford Gatehouse Theatre. 

Based in the heart of the county town, the Gatehouse is home to festive fun with the annual rock ‘n’ roll panto and the annual Stafford Festival Shakespeare. 

Hit Broadway shows, open mic nights, and hilarious comedians are part of the mix at Burton’s Brewhouse Arts Centre, while West End musicals, opera and dance are always on the bill at the beautifully restored Regent Theatre in Stoke-on-Trent. 

In Cannock, the Prince of Wales Centre provides a wide range of shows, concerts and events for all ages, and in Stoke, the Repertory Theatre presents six plays a year and a host of works from amateur dramatics companies.
