Walks in Staffordshire

Whether you’re looking for hardcore hiking or a relaxing romantic stroll, there’s a host of great walks in Staffordshire.

Five Great Staffordshire Walks

Staffordshire is a haven for walkers and nature lovers and offers a huge array of different walking environments from enchanting forests and pretty canals through to spectacular lakes and dramatic, challenging landscapes.

Manifold Valley

Manifold Valley is a picturesque tree lined valley that follows parts of the River Manifold and the disused Leek and Manifold Light Railway. The pretty Manifold Way also runs through the valley and there are a variety of walking routes to explore in this beautiful area of Staffordshire.

Stepping Stones, Cannock Chase

The Stepping Stones is a popular spot to visit when exploring the northern part of Cannock Chase, with walks taking in the Sherbrook Valley and Sher Brook, and following the stream along woodland paths until you reach the Stepping Stones.

Dovedale

A walk in Dovedale takes you through the beautiful limestone Dovedale Valley, a well-loved beauty spot in the Peak District. The valley was cut by the River Dove and is around 3 miles long.

Fradley Junction

Fradley Junction is the point where the Trent and Mersey and Coventry canals meet. Stroll along the canal, through the countryside and Fradley Junction Nature Reserve, and into the picturesque village of Fradley.

Park Hall Country Park

Park Hall Country Park is a National Nature Reserve near Stoke-onTrent and a lovely location to go walking. It offers a range of different scenery including lakes, woodland and sandstone Canyons.

Long Distance Walks in Staffordshire

If you’re looking for a more challenging walk, or a walking break, we have long distance trails criss-crossing the county in every direction.

You could take in the length of the county on the Staffordshire Way , follow in the footsteps of an iconic writer on the Tolkien Trail, or retrace a pilgrimage between two cathedral cities on the Two Saints Way.

Walking Festivals in Staffordshire

Join like-minded walkers at one of the popular walking festivals in Staffordshire.

The Staffordshire Moorlands Walking Festival in April brings together walkers of all abilities to sample the beauty of routes in The Roaches, Lud’s Church, Thor’s Cave and the Churnet Valley, with expert guides full of interesting local knowledge.

And we celebrate National Walking Month in May with the National Forest Walking Festival, which includes a huge range of options taking in the lush greenery of The National Forest, a 200 square mile woodland covering parts of Staffordshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire.
