Countryside in Staffordshire

Did you know Staffordshire is the only place in the country where you can you find a National Park, a National Landscape, and a National Forest?

We also have more miles of canal than any other Shire county in the UK, and thousands of miles of waterways in total!

About 80% of the county is rural, and there is amazing countryside in Staffordshire, in every corner, so if you love walking, cycling, and being in The Great Outdoors, Staffordshire is as good as it gets.

From towering gritstone crags, to unspoilt ancient heather heathland, peaceful woodlands, and miles of tranquil towpaths, it’s all here for you to discover.

Peak District National Park

Some of the best and most varied parts of the Peak District National Park, the first country park in Britain, are in Staffordshire.

You can visit the breath-taking ruggedness and panoramic views of The Roaches, explore the rolling hills of the Manifold Valley, immerse yourself in the lush forests of the Churnet Valley, and much more.

Visit our Peak District National Park page for more information.

Cannock Chase Forest & National Landscape

You’ll find walking and cycling trails of all descriptions at Cannock Chase Forest & National Landscape, from leisurely family walks to challenging mountain bike trails renowned as some of the best in the country.

And as a former military training camp and centre for coal mining, it also has a fascinating history to dig up.

Our Cannock Chase Forest & National Landscape page has all the details.

The National Forest

Immerse yourself in nature at The National Forest, a lush, green playground covering 200 square miles in the heart of the country.

It’s a haven for wildlife and has a huge range of walks, experiences, places to stay and great pubs and restaurants.
