Work underway on the A500 (Section 4 of the Etruria Valley Link Road).

Work is progressing on the Etruria Valley Link Road, with Section 4 of the project set to be complete by Autumn 2020…

Development of the Etruria Valley Link Road (EVLR) is starting to take place, with work progressing on Section 4 of the ambitious road scheme. Once complete, the EVLR will link Etruria Valley Business Park to the Wolstanton roundabout and the A500 – helping to improve access to the Etruria Valley commercial site, improving capacity, speeding up journey times and reducing congestion on surrounding roads (A53).

Planning permission for the full project was approved in October last year, and roadworks for the complete EVLR are expected to be complete by the end of 2022.

Plans for the Etruria Valley Link Road.

The Etruria Valley Link Road is comprised of 4 sections:

  • Section 1A

Construction of a new road to connect Festival Way and Shelton Boulevard, including: a central roundabout, a bridge across the Trent and Mersey Canal, and a footpath link to the Trent and Mersey Canal.

  • Section 1B

The continuation of Shelton Boulevard to Newport Lane, including a new bridge over the Trent and Mersey Canal. There will be a bus gate restricting traffic on this new section of Newport Lane, open to public transport, pedestrians and cyclists only. This section of works also includes a new pedestrian link leading down to the Trent and Mersey Canal.

  • Section 2

Construction of a road bridge crossing to link Sections 1A and 1B (to the A500). This bridge will cross the West Coast Mainline railway and Fowlea Brook.

  • Section 3

Improvement to the existing two roundabouts on the A500/Wolstanton junction providing a connection between the A500 and A527 and forming the connection point for the Section 2 works.

  • Section 4

Road widening at the A500 between Porthill and Wolstanton (delivered by Highways England).

Current work on Section 4 of the project has seen 1km of the A500, between Porthill (A5271) and Wolstanton (A527) junctions, being expanded from two lanes to three. This portion of the scheme will see better connectivity from the A500 to the M6, providing better links between Stoke-on-Trent and Nantwich, Crewe and other Cheshire towns, as well as improving road safety and reducing delays.

Further developments are taking place at Etruria Valley, with 11 newly-built industrial units recently becoming available on the property market.
