With the United Kingdom leaving the EU, one might think that European companies would be reluctant to invest in the UK. But nothing could be further from the truth for Dutch company PRN-Group.
In 2017, its UK office, John Scott Works Ltd., started to design, manufacture, and install mezzanine floors within the UK, something the group have been doing across mainland Europe for nearly 25 years. As an engineering company, the choice to locate in the Midlands, with its roots embedded in steel manufacturing, was only natural.
John Scott Works started in Tipton in the Black Country and after their first year they had completed 50 projects. In 2018 a welding robot was purchased, and by the end of 2018 the workforce had grown to 16 and John Scott Works had completed 120 projects.
2019 saw the largest investment yet with the ordering of a roll forming line for the UK and the purchase of John Scott Work’s own 12,000 square foot factory at Hilton Cross in South Staffordshire. John Scott Works completed 218 projects and the workforce increased to 37 employees. The Make it Stoke-on-Trent & Staffordshire Investment service provided support in advising on potential funding and facilitated an introduction to the planning team at South Staffordshire Council for advice on future expansion.
Despite concerns around Brexit John Scott Works has continued its growth. John Scott Works are unique within the mezzanine floor industry. Whilst many competitors choose to out-source the manufacturing of the beams to one company, the stairs to another, according to Managing Director Matt Schot: “John Scott Works believes higher quality standards can be maintained when the entire manufacturing process is done in-house from start to finish.”
John Scott Works is changing an industry still used to heavy duty hot rolled section beams, by producing cold rolled beams which are aesthetically pleasing to look and feature trays for electric wires and piping. The company employs its own construction teams all over the UK keeping to the company philosophy of keeping all aspects in house. “By using our own employed teams we once again ensure the highest standards of quality in the industry on every project.” Matt Schot MD.
The new facility in South Staffordshire in ideally positioned centrally in the UK and near the Midlands motorway network meaning that John Scott Works is able to respond quickly and efficiently to any inquiry about its innovative mezzanines that create more space for business.
