Staffordshireas success in attracting and retaining global businesses has been highlighted in Parliament today.
MPs welcome the news that General Electric (GE) has started construction on the second of its two new world class research and manufacturing facilities at Staffordshire County Councilas Redhill Business Park in Stafford.
The success was highlighted by Stafford MP Jeremy Lefroy as part of Prime Ministeras Questions.
Speaking at the session, Prime Minister Theresa May said:A aI am delighted to hear of GEas commitment to Stafford.A However it is more than just a commitment to Stafford, it is a commitment to the UK as a whole and to the future of our economy.A I want the UK to be global leader in free trade, and we are listening to businesses around the country and the importance they place on free trade.a
The county councilas economy leader Mark Winnington said:A aAcross Staffordshire we are seeing continued optimism by businesses, and with our success highlighted in Parliament today, this can only strengthen it further.
aAs well as General Electric, we have recently seen Spanish automotive parts supplier Gestamp cementing their commitment to Staffordshire by choosing to build a AL70million new facility in the county, so it is able to expand and grow its workforce.
aThe county council works closely with businesses, developers and other partners to further increase Staffordshireas economic growth. We are working hard to ensure we can continue to attract global businesses to Staffordshire, so they can experience the benefits of a county that is creating the right conditions for business growth, and is an attractive place to live and visit
