Following a consultation with local businesses, Staffordshire Moorlands District Council wants to invest AL50,000 to assist in bringing forward 32 hectares of employment land in sites in Leek, Cheadle and Biddulph.
Councillors are expected to approve a report outlining plans to deliver sites including Cornhill in Leek and Wharf Road in Biddulph.
Dai Larner, executive director of place, said: aLack of available and suitable premises for business expansion has been raised as an issue through consultation with businesses.
aThis consultation highlights the need to maximise the use of every available piece of land allocated for employment or regeneration uses and accelerate delivery to drive economic growth.”
Jane Gratton, deputy chief executive of Staffordshire Chambers of Commerce, today welcomed the plans.
She said: “Staffordshire Moorlands is a great place to start and grow a business and we are seeing increasing demand for employment land and premises.
“We welcome any initiative that helps businesses to invest as this will boost the local economy and create new job opportunities.”
Staffordshire Moorland MP Karen Bradley added: “I am delighted to hear the district council is planning to invest AL50,000 on preparing land and planning applications as part of its pledge to create an additional 32 hectares of employment space across the district.
“Many of my constituents have approached me with fantastic start-up ideas, but due to a lack of employment space too many never come to fruition.
“This new funding will allow the innovative culture of the Moorlands to thrive and will help many existing businesses to expand, creating jobs for people across the Moorlands.”
