Property developer, Godwin Developments has announced plans to redevelop the former Stafford Rugby Club ground (located at Castlefield, Stafford) into a major mixed-use scheme. The £80million project will include a new 100-room hotel, 300 build-to-rent homes as well as retail and leisure space. This encompasses 300,000ft² of development, including 60,000ft² of leisure and retail space (with proposals for a multi-story carpark).
Godwin Developments spoke to trade publication Property Week about plans to redevelop the 6.6-acre Castlefield site in Stafford – close by to Stafford Railway Station (part of the Stafford Station Gateway scheme). A spokesperson for the developer said that it hoped the venture would give local residents better amenities and attract visitors to the area, helping to boost its long-term economic prospects.
However, the developer did state that it was in “early-stage” discussions with Staffordshire Borough Council regarding plans.
The project will include a new 100-room hotel, 300 build-to-rent homes as well as retail and leisure space.
Group Development Director & Co-founder at Godwin Developments, Stuart Pratt, commented:
“Staffordshire is an important area of development focus for us as we see high growth potential in the region. We believe that the Stafford Borough Council Regeneration Plan alongside the construction of HS2 and the Stafford Gateway Masterplan project will be key drivers to fast-track growth of the town, which is already shaping into a highly attractive investment proposition for developers and commuters alike.”
