Stoke-on-Trent-based heavy engineering firm, Goodwin is set to expand its headquarters in the city and create more jobs…
Historic company, Goodwin – who have been trading in Stoke-on-Trent since 1883 – are looking to extend the company’s HQ in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, adding an extra two levels to their current premises.
The 31,161ft² expansion was approved by Stoke-on-Trent City Council earlier this week, with planned developments including a new 60-space multi-storey carpark and new office space at the site. The project forms part of parent company, Goodwin Plc’s multi-million pound investment plan to boost operations at the foundry located on Ivy House Road, and will create a further 17 jobs at the company.
Goodwin currently employs around 500 people between the company’s Ivy House Road foundry, and the Goodwin International site (located in Trentham) which carries out machining, fabrication and assembly work on the castings produced by the foundry.
In a statement to Stoke-on-Trent City Council, Goodwin Steel Castings stated:
"The proposals represent a huge potential investment for Goodwin Plc and would ultimately safeguard the head office for the future in terms of the functionality and will provide much-needed expansion in regards to office space and business growth.
"We believe the additions are sympathetic to the host building and provide a world class HQ building in Stoke-on-Trent that will serve the needs of this international company."
Over the past three decades, pre-tax profits at Goodwins Plc have increased from £402,000 (1992) to £13.3 million (2018), while the group’s turnover has risen from £3.6m to £124.8m. The company now has 24 trading subsidiaries.

Planning Officer at Stoke-on-Trent City Council, Angela Barlow commented:
"The existing office building has formed the head offices for the applicant for many years.
"However, following the growth of the applicant in the nearby area, together with the number of subsidiary companies also within its ownership, it has been identified that the existing head office needs to expand to allow it to functionally operate better and also to provide office floorspace for senior management in one location. Staff based at the offices will also increase from 38 to 55.
"In order to provide for additional employees in the head office and also visitors, it has also been identified that additional nearby car parking facilities are required."
