Stoke-on-Trent now ranks in the UK's "Top 10 Cities for House Price Increases" – with the value of the average Stoke-on-Trent home rising by 5.4 per cent year-on-year.
The latest UK Cities House Price Index reveals that the average house price in Stoke-on-Trent is now £115,000 - up by 5.4% compared to corresponding period 12 months ago. Ranked against 64 other cities, Stoke-on-Trent is acknowledged as the 10th highest (ahead of regional neighbours Nottingham, Derby and Telford).
Councillor Randy Conteh, the city council’s cabinet member for housing, communities and safer city, said: “Our city is transforming and we have a number of huge regeneration programmes under way – meaning more investment, development and job creation.
“This, together with our superb connectivity and our own housing development plans, means Stoke-on-Trent is becoming a more attractive place to live.
“We want to ensure there is a broad range of housing on offer across the city so we can encourage people to move here and existing residents to stay.
“In 2016 we started our own housing company Fortior Homes to ensure there were no gaps in the market and residents had the choices they need when deciding on a new home.
“We are also building new social homes, ensuring that we are offering various forms of tenures to people in the city.
“In addition to this, we are always working hard to improve housing standards – both in our own stock and in the privately rented sector – and we have invested millions of pounds into our housing repairs and maintenance company Unitas to support this.”
Last month, the city council was shortlisted for two national awards for its strategic approach towards housing development as well as its commitment to raising standards in its housing stock. It was named as a finalist in the UK Housing Awards 2019’s Council of the Year category.
Unitas has also been recognised in the Direct Labour Organisation (DLO) category. The awards, run by the Chartered Institute of Housing and Inside Housing, showcase the very best the housing sector has to offer. Cllr Conteh has led the pitch in London for both shortlisted categories, along with the director of housing, Carl Brazier.
