Stoke-on-Trent manufacturer, The Surface Design Studio - who specialise in custom-made tile production - has recently partnered up with DreamWorks at the film company’s DreamWorks Waterpark (situated at the ambitious ‘American Dream’ attraction, opening in New Jersey).
The Surface Design Studio - trading out of Brindley Ford, Stoke-on-Trent - is renowned for creating bespoke, high-quality tiles, and was approached by DreamWorks to complete a custom swimming pool design for a lazy river feature at the waterpark.
Over a two-month period, The Surface Design Studio has produced over 18,500 tiles, as well as traveling across the Atlantic Ocean to install the unique fitting.
"The size and scale of this project is the biggest we've ever done."
Studio Director at The Surface Design Studio, Mark Wood commented:
“The size and scale of this project is the biggest we’ve ever done.
“We were contacted by DreamWorks through our website and they needed a quick turnaround of tiles that met their quality testing.
“Due to our kiln fired tiles and colourfast technology we passed their testing and started producing tiles for the project.”
DreamWorks Waterpark will have 40 water slides and a range of other attractions.
The lazy river feature runs the through the waterpark, and boasts a variety of themed areas, including Shrek, Madagascar and Kung Fu Panda. The convenient design will allow visitors to float from one experience to another, with 40 water slides throughout DreamWorks Waterpark, and a range of other attractions (such as a wavepool, hot tubs and bar).

Mark added:
“The best part about the project was being able to complete consultations, this meant I could offer the best advice and get actions agreed quickly.
“We could offer solutions such as using different sized tiles to reduce cost implications and installation times for the project, which was a great solution for the project as it was on a tight timescale.”
On the back of the lazy river project, The Surface Design Studio has received a further request from DreamWorks to work on the waterpark’s waterfall and wave pool features.
