More than 500 Civil Service jobs will be created in the Potteries after the city was chosen to house a new Government centre.
Her Majesty’s Court’s and Tribunal Service (HMCTS) will be recruiting 100 people each month between January and May - with some vacancies already available online. The new roles will be based at Bennett House in Town Road, Hanley, which had previously been home to the immigration court. It comes as part of a major nationwide £1 billion programme being carried out by the HMCTS.
A spokesperson said: “We are pleased to be opening our first Court and Tribunals Service Centre in Stoke on Trent next month and we expect to have around 500 staff working there by the summer. Court and Tribunals Service Centres are a key part of our £1 billion reform programme ensuring we deliver a better service for all court users.”
It is thought staff at the new centre will process cases, issue court orders and hearing notices, answer telephone calls and deal with online inquiries. It will help to move the courts service away from its traditional paper-based processes to new digital systems, with several services now available online.
Sara Williams, chief executive of Staffordshire Chambers of Commerce, said the centre is a ‘fantastic opportunity for the city’.
She added: “Investment such as this is a great way to put Stoke-on-Trent on the map and is a real support structure for local people.”
